Equipment

Flatbed freight shipping

Open-deck truckload capacity for steel, building materials, machinery and anything that has to be loaded from the side or the top.

Flatbed trailer loaded with tarped and strapped freight

Flatbed freight fails for different reasons than dry van freight. The truck is rarely the problem — the problem is securement, tarping and dimensions that were never confirmed in writing before dispatch, so the driver arrives without the straps, chains or tarps the load actually needs.

We settle that before the carrier is assigned. Dimensions, weight, tarping requirement, number of straps or chains, and who is loading are written into the load instructions the carrier accepts, so the equipment that shows up matches the freight on the ground.

A standard 48- or 53-foot flatbed carries roughly 48,000 lbs depending on tractor weight and axle distribution. Freight that exceeds legal width, height or length becomes an over-dimensional move with permit and routing implications, and we will tell you that up front rather than discovering it in transit.

Pricing reflects the real work involved. Tarped loads, multi-stop securement and difficult jobsite deliveries cost more than a straightforward mill-to-yard run, and we would rather explain why than quote low and fail to cover the load.

Typically used for

  • Steel, pipe, coils and metal products
  • Lumber, roofing and building materials
  • Machinery and industrial equipment within legal dimensions
  • Jobsite and yard deliveries without dock access

What we need to quote it

  • Length, width, height and total weight of the load
  • Whether the freight must be tarped
  • How it is loaded and unloaded (forklift, crane, side load)
  • Pickup and delivery locations, including jobsite access notes
Securement confirmed

Straps, chains and tarping requirements written into the load before dispatch.

We flag over-dimensional freight and permit implications before you commit.
